November is National Novel Writing Month

National Novel Writing MonthNovember is National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo by frequent competitors. This internet-based competition challenges competitors to write a 50,000 word manuscript in thirty days. Contestants are allowed to plan out the story ahead of time, but they are not permitted to begin actually writing a draft until the 1st of November. This competition is designed for the people who have always wanted to write a novel but haven’t gotten around to it, and also serves the purpose of helping to make the writing process–normally a solitary endeavor–a more communal activity by linking NaNoWriMo participants all over the world. Winners, or people who get to 50,000 words, win a printable certificate and bragging rights, plus the satisfaction of having finally put pen to paper on that writing project that’s been floating around in the back of your mind for years.
