Superfood Power: 10 of Healthiest Foods on the Planet


superfoodsWhen shopping for foods to keep our family healthy, many times we trust the food labels that scream “nutritional”, “vitamins and minerals”, and “heart safe”. Those are a few examples of some food labels that may be true, but but the healthiest foods, at times, have no labels.

66% of Americans are overweight or obese—which is a big reason more of us are developing diseases such as diabetes, and at younger ages.

Now is the time to dive into the world of “superfoods”. Superfoods are packed with nutrients nutrient which can help you fight disease, feel more energetic and even lose weight. There are many superfoods, these are my personal favorites that have actually given me results.

  • Acai juice According to Texas A&M University researchers, a  glass or two of this anthocyanin-rich berry juice can dramatically boost the amount of antioxidants in your blood.
  • Apples They contain quercetin, an antioxidant that may reduce your risk of lung cancer.
  • Eggs Each egg has 6 grams of protein but just 72 calories. Egg whites are especially good if you are trying to reach  a weight loss goal.
  • Avocados Their healthy fat keeps you satisfied and helps you absorb other nutrients. Add diced tomato, cilantro, a squeeze of lemon juice-guacamole anyone?
  • Spinach A half-cup provides more than five times your daily dose of vitamin K, which helps blood clot and builds strong bones.
  • Cauliflower White foods can be good for you! This one is packed with cancer-fighting glucosinolates.
  • Scallops A 3-oz serving has 14 grams of protein but just 75 calories.
  • Tea Both green and black tea prevent hardening of the arteries, according to researchers at the University of Scranton.
  •  Dried plums(prunes) They’re packed with polyphenols, plant chemicals that have been shown to boost bone density.
  • Brussel Sprouts-They have more glucosinolates (compounds that combat cancer) than any other vegetable.
